This Week: Bit of a quiet meeting this one with Immediate Past President Jim chairing the show. I think President Keiran should be aware that the black hole is only for past presidents!

At the meeting we had Roy, JimK, JimB, Jes, Bill, Brian and PeterR. Apologies from PrezK, Ashley, Vicki, Helen and June.

Brian informed us that there is an official opening of the South Western part of RYDA (Rotary Youth Driver Awareness) on the 15th of August. RYDA has been operating successfully for some time now with schools participating almost on a weekly basis.

PP Jim apparently has aspirations for Probus. He was seen out on a day excursion with a busload of Probus people visiting the new coach being built for Queen Elizabeth. Apparently the coach is taller than a normal room and is made out of aluminium, brass and gold. It is expected to last for 100 years and contains timber that is over 4000 years old. Also Jim had to conduct an inspection of the Harbord Diggers Club to make sure their accounting practices are up to date (yeah sure mate!)

Next week our esteemed Helen Syrmalis will be taking over the reigns as editor-in-chief.

Lights, Camera, Action!

See the Stars! Share the spotlight with fellow Rotarians in the entertainment capital of the world.

Los Angeles is the ideal stage for Rotary International's annual extravaganza. Like the family of Rotary, this sprawling metropolis of 3.8 million people boasts a diverse ethnic mix and cosmopolitan flare. L.A. is the second largest city in the United States and teems with activity and culture — from its star-studded motion picture industry to its picturesque beachfront communities and resorts.

Convention cost is $265USD if paid by 15th December 2007.

The convention will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, a mammoth steel and glass building with 720,000 square feet of exhibition space. Download or view the PDF at http://www.rotary.org/newsroom/downloadcenter/pdfs/c08_brochure.pdf

Let's make sure we are in the centre of the action by booking early!

A nasty one from Drew Stein

A nice, calm, respectable lady went into a pharmacy, right up to the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said, "I would like to buy some cyanide."

The pharmacist asked,
"Why in the world do you need cyanide?"

The lady replied,
"I need it to poison my husband."

The pharmacist's eyes got big and he exclaimed,
"Lord have Mercy! I can't give you cyanide to kill your husband!
That's against the law! I'll lose my license! They'll throw both of us in jail!
All kinds of bad things will happen. Absolutely not! You CANNOT have any cyanide!"

The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist's wife.

The pharmacist looked at the picture and replied,
"Well now. That's different. You didn't tell me you had a prescription."
