| Volume 15 Issue 50 – 26 June 2007 Editor: Peter Reeves Is "Service Above Self" your motto? This Week: This week's attendance was again very low due to the rain. Those in attendance were Roy H, Bill R, Jim K, Peter R, Jes J, Ashley T and Chris H. We had a visitor and potential new member Alan Crane from the National Australia Bank. Alan met Peter R at the recent Expo and is interested in finding out more about Rotary. Peter R presented him with a summary of the Rotary Program. All that attended had a pleasant breakfast and General Fellowship. Apologies were received from Jim B, Brian B, June B, Vicki L and Helen S.

RI Convention 2008: The 99th RI Convention is in Los Angeles, 15–18 June 2008 Lights, Camera, Action! See the Stars! Share the spotlight with fellow Rotarians in the entertainment capital of the world. Los Angeles is the ideal stage for Rotary International's annual extravaganza. Like the family of Rotary, this sprawling metropolis of 3.8 million people boasts a diverse ethnic mix and cosmopolitan flare. L.A. is the second largest city in the United States and teems with activity and culture — from its star-studded motion picture industry to its picturesque beachfront communities and resorts. Convention cost is $265USD if paid by 15th December 2007. The convention will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, a mammoth steel and glass building with 720,000 square feet of exhibition space. Download or view the PDF at http://www.rotary.org/newsroom/downloadcenter/pdfs/c08_brochure.pdf Let's make sure we are in the centre of the action by booking early! Why I am a Rotarian If you look at the membership of any Rotary Club, you will see the diversity of backgrounds from which our members come; from industry, service, supply, and the community. A real cross section of society exists within each club. But all these people, from the moment the meeting starts, from the moment the fund-raising event begins, from the moment the fellowship meeting takes place, have the ideals of Rotary in common, and none more so than 'Service Above Self." And out of this we form lasting personal friendships and meet more people, through our help and support, broadening our lives and improving our understanding. Going the extra mile, filling the unforgiving minute, has benefited people all round the world and will continue to do so as long as Rotary continues. And while there is a hungry mouth, a deprived community, a disease that has to be stopped, there will always be Rotary, there to help and support. The tradition is safe. The work will go on. I am thankful that I am a part of it. PP Jim Silver Rotary Club of West Bridgford, Nottingham, District 1220
How Moses Got the 10 Commandments God went to the Arabs and said, "I have Commandments for you that will make your lives better. The Arabs asked, "What are Commandments?" And the Lord said, "They are rules for living." Can you give us an example?" "Thou shall not kill." "Not kill? We're not interested." God went to the Blacks and said, "I have Commandments." The Blacks wanted an example, and the Lord said, "Honor thy Father and Mother." "Father? We don't know who our fathers are. We're not interested." Then He went to the Mexicans and said, "I have Commandments." The Mexicans also wanted an example, and the Lord said "Thou shall not steal." "Not steal? We're not interested." Then He went to the French and said, "I have Commandments." The French too wanted an example and the Lord said, "Thou shall not commit adultery." "Not commit adultery? We're not interested." Finally, He went to the Jews and said, "I have Commandments." "Commandments?" They said, "How much are they?" "They're free." "We'll take 10.
