Last week's meeting saw apologies from Brian, June, Darren, Kathy and Ian.

Our ROYA presentation of awards is on Thursday 30 August 2007 6.30pm for 7.00pm start at the Bistro room at Club Marconi. A $15 fee gets you in the door, light supper, great entertainment from our contestants and a fun night.

RELAY FOR LIFE - Chris has the raffle tickets and would appreciate it if anyone could assist her with selling tickets. Geoff Lumley from the R.C of Cabramatta attended our meeting and expressed Cabramatta's willingness to assist the R. C of Wetherill Park in catering for the event. A joint meeting between both clubs on Monday the 3 September 2007 at the Cabramatta Bowling Club will allow further discussions on the finer details. Please advise Chris on your availability to assist on these two days.

Jim Brown is our co-ordinator once again for next years BOWL SCAN event. For a small cost to purchase a kit, it saves many lives.

POLICE OFFICER OF THE YEAR AWARD is held on 26 September 2007 by the R. C of Liverpool. A rewarding night for all participants so come along and show your support.

One nomination has been received for the PRIDE OF WORKMANSHIP AWARD to be held in October 2007. Please consider all your outstanding achievers and contact Bill Robb for a place.

RI Convention 2008: The 99th RI Convention is in Los Angeles, 15–18 June 2008
Lights, Camera, Action!

See the Stars! Share the spotlight with fellow Rotarians in the entertainment capital of the world.

Los Angeles is the ideal stage for Rotary International's annual extravaganza. Like the family of Rotary, this sprawling metropolis of 3.8 million people boasts a diverse ethnic mix and cosmopolitan flare. L.A. is the second largest city in the United States and teems with activity and culture — from its star-studded motion picture industry to its picturesque beachfront communities and resorts.

Convention cost is $265USD if paid by 15th December 2007.

The convention will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Centre, a mammoth steel and glass building with 720,000 square feet of exhibition space. Download or view the PDF at http://www.rotary.org/newsroom/downloadcenter/pdfs/c08_brochure.pdf

Let's make sure we are in the centre of the action by booking early!

I met this bloke with a didgeridoo and he was playing Dancing Queen on it. I thought, "That's Aboriginal."

June Bragg, our International Director is working on preparing shoeboxes to send overseas to underprivileged children for Christmas.

She would appreciate your support for this International Project by either making up shoeboxes with the items listed below or by supplying these items & she will make the boxes up. Approx. 12 boxes are waiting to be filled.

Each shoebox is to include:

Something to wear, something to eat (not chocolate), something to play with, something to write/draw etc on/with, some item of toiletry & something to love.

The boxes are to be covered in wrapping paper with a rubber band holding it together please.

Last year some photos were put into the boxes so the children knew who their gifts were from. Please support June in this worth course.

A bloke's wife goes missing while diving off the West Tasmanian coast. He reports the event, searches fruitlessly and spends a terrible night wondering what could have happened to her.

Next morning there's a knock at the door and he is confronted by a couple of policemen, the old Sarge and a younger Constable.

The Sarge says, "Mate, we have some news for you, unfortunately some really bad news, but, some good news, and maybe some more good news."

"Well," says the bloke,"I guess I'd better have the bad news first?"

The Sarge says, "I'm really sorry mate, but your wife is dead.
Young Bill here found her lying at about five fathoms in a little cleft in the reef. He got a line around her and we pulled her up, but she was dead."

The bloke is naturally pretty distressed to hear of this and has a bit of a turn. But after a few minutes he pulls himself together and asks, "what's the good news.......??

The Sarge says, "Well when we got your wife up there were quite a few really good sized crays and a swag of nice crabs attached to her, so we've brought you your share."

He hands the bloke a sugar bag with a couple of nice crays and four or five crabs in it.

"Geez thanks. They're bloody beauties. I guess it's an ill wind and all that... So what's the other possible good news?"

"Well," the Sarge says,"if you fancy a quick trip, I and young Bill here get off duty at around
11 o'clock and we're gunna shoot over there and pull her up again.....!"

Thanks for your time…..Your Editor - Helen Syrmalis
