Volume 15 Issue 49 – 19 June 2007 Editor: Peter Reeves

Is "Service Above Self" your motto?

This Week: This weeks attendance was a little better than last week with Pres Jim, Bill R, Roy H, Pat S, Vicki L, Chris H, Ashley T, Brian B, Jes J, Jim K in attendance. All that attended had a pleasant breakfast and General Fellowship.

Apologies were received from Peter R, June B, Keiran S, Helen S, Ian D

Directors Reports were heard from Brian B and Vicki L.

Brian's reports are listed under the various youth program below.

Vicki reported the membership of the Ball Committee.

Members of the Ball Committee are Vicki L(Chair), Pat S, Roland M, Bill R, Katharine K, Helen S, Tina P. Members are reminded that even if they are not on the main sub-committee, their assistance is still needed to make the event a success. Vicki will be contacting others in the near future for their help.

Joker Draw: Bill R. was fortunate enough to hold the number drawn for the Joker, and then in his typical style found the Joker. He took away the Jackpot of $42.00.

Interact: Brian B and Peter R attended the Interact Changer Over at Mary MacKillop College on Friday. It was a pleasant afternoon tea with some of the newest members of the club in attendance. Unfortunately last year's President was not able to attend due to HSC commitments, but Michael Thompson, the club coordinator at MMC expressed his delight in the progress of the club and the increase in activity over the last term because of the new President.

Last year's Executive was Samantha Vella (Pres) and Kathleen Liu (VP) and this year's are Felicia Lay (Pres) and Tina Nguyen (VP).

Peter R thanked the girls for their hard work and invited the new Executive to join our club for breakfast in the not too distant future. He also invited the Principal of MMC Robyn Glover and V Principal Leonie Dowd to join them.

The Rotary Club of Wetherill Park has been a sponsor of the Interact Club at MMC since early 2000.

ROYA: No ROYA Applications have been received.

RYDA: The Rotary Youth Driver Awareness program was being held on Monday for Liverpool High School. It ran with its usual efficiency and we can only hope that it will save more lives from the regular road carnage we see in the news.

The RYDA program is an important District 9690 initiative, but it does take an effort by the club members to help with the running of each training day. All members are encouraged to offer assistance for the next day when we are advised it is scheduled.

NYSF: We have received five applications for the National Youth Science Forum to be held in January. A selection panel is needed to review the applicants to determine which ones we will submit to the District Panel. Any one available to join the selection panel should contact Brian Bragg to offer their assistance.

Brian B, Jim B and Jes J are interviewing 5 candidates on Thursday 21 June.

District Selection day is on 22 July. District has received over 60 Applications & we only have 9 spaces to select for.

The National Youth Science Forum is run each year in January, with two intakes. Each forum is for two weeks and the forums start in the 1st and 3rd week of January. Applicants need to be currently in year 11 and intend to do science in year 12 with the objective of taking a career in science. Applications are now closed.

CHEZ WHAT?

After a long illness, a woman died and arrived at the Gates of Heaven. While she was waiting for Saint Peter to greet her, she peeked through the Gates. She saw a beautiful banquet table.

Sitting all around were her parents and all the other people she had loved and who had died before her. They saw her and began calling greetings to her: "Hello. How are you? We've been waiting for you. Good to see you."

When Saint Peter came by, the woman said to him, "This is such a wonderful place. How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," Saint Peter told her.

"Which word?" the woman asked.

"Love."

The woman correctly spelled "l-o-v-e," and Saint Peter welcomed her into Heaven.

About two years later, Saint Peter came to the woman and asked her to watch the Gates of Heaven for him that day.

While the woman was guarding the Gates of Heaven, her husband arrived.

"I'm surprised to see you," the woman said. "How have you been?"

"Oh, I've been doing pretty well since you died," her husband told her. "I married the beautiful young nurse who took care of you while you were ill. And then I won the lottery. I sold the little house you and I lived in and bought a big mansion. And my wife and I traveled all around the world. We were on vacation and I went water skiing today. I fell, the ski hit my head, and here I am. How do I get in?"

"You have to spell a word," the woman told him.

"Which word?" her husband asked.

"Czechoslovakia."
