Darren announced that he would be travelling to Germany to attend a wedding (not his own) and would be stopping off in Thailand on the return journey. Secretary's Report: RYDA: seeking support for Monday 18 June, when Fairfield High School is attending the program. Any one who can assist, please let Brian Bragg know. Invoice to the Marquee for the Golf Day received - $770.00 . Sending booking for the Business Expo – Superior Small stall at cost of $605.00. Helen has received invoices from Roland re the Golf Day. Vocational Service Report: RESRA happening. There have been some changes but still on track. Need to confirm numbers for the 21 May 2007. Note – no breakfast meeting on 22 May. Ambulance Band has confirmed it will be performing. Jes will speak to Harry and ensure the plaques are ready by the due time. At present there were some 53 attending – 24 plus 19 guests, plus DG Harley & Megan and Deb Sanders. Smithfield – Wetherill Park Chamber of Commerce – Jes has been Executive Director for past 12 years. He will be ceasing with the Chamber on 4 July. The Chamber has commissioned Narelle Stoker from Fairfield Workplace Learning Partnership to recruit 100 new members, completion of which may lead to her being offered the Executive Director's role. Jes will be taking a break before seeking future options. Other items: Welcome to Charter Member: Charter Member Peter Zipkis attended the meeting. He reminded us that he has a legal practice in Fairfield. He said that while soliciting he had to hand out his briefs. His children are aged 25 and 10 years. The elder is looking for a career in the Australian Public Service. Club Marconi: Roland gave the meeting a short report on what was happening with the Clubs refurbishment and why it was happening. The relocation of the Chinese restaurant was the result of better & more economic utilisation of resources because of the perceived impact of the Smoking Legislation becoming effective from 1 July 2007. As a result of the work some 130 machines have been removed from service. Further refurbishment will occur to the Auditorium and the smoker's garden attached. Other long term issues are the Motel and further into the future – the Retirement Village. Golf Day: Accounting and administration is almost complete and it appears that the fundraising still stands around $10,000 after expenses. The issue of the Accommodation voucher for the winner of the Raffle was raised. Asked that it be referred to Ashley who was following up on the matter. Joker: Raised $63.00 – which raised the pot to $177.00. Peter Zipkis drew no. 88, lucky for Chris. However, Chris drew K of Diamonds so the Joker Jackpotted. Darren did a marvellous job as Sergeant, relieving everyone of their spare coins – especially Roland and his backers. What we learn from TV: On 1 –v- 100, it was learned by an unnamed member that "Idiot" refers to the IQ level of 25 or less, the next bracket was "Imbecile", followed by "Moron" and so up to "Genius" – I suppose. On learning this magic piece of useless information, there were quite a number of quips about the intellectual levels attending. Question asked was whether two 'idiots' would make an 'imbecile' and whether two 'imbeciles' a 'moron'. One could get a giggle without getting a definitive answer. Still good humour prevailed without bloodshed. Community Service Report Walkathon Sydney Western School for Autism. A Report from Pres Jim who represented us on the day: Wednesday 16th May I was invited to attend the annual Walkathon at the Western Sydney School for Children with Autism (At least this was to be present & observe - NO walking - after a great deal of walking at RYDA) The first item on Giovanni's opening speech was to welcome me representing the Rotary Club of Wetherill Park & then he continued to speak about what a good benefactor our club was. There was at least 50+ adults there & lots of kids, I waited until theirWalkathon started, which was going to go for over an hour so, then bid farewell to Giovanni. Clubs Open Day: Sponsored by Fairfield Council to be held on Saturday, 5 August 2007 from 10.00a – 3.00p. We are seeking about 6 volunteers to man the stall/display – about 2 hours each. A Shelter Box will be available as part of the display. Cabramatta Club have agreed to work with us on the day. Business Expo: Smithfield Wetherill Park Chamber of Commerce is having a Business Expo on Wednesday 6 June, 12.00 to 7.30pm. Volunteers are required to man the Wetherill park Rotary Club display stand to try and encourage local business to get involved with our Club, either through membership and sponsorship. We should use these opportunities to expand membership. Volunteers for the Clubs Open Day and the Chamber Business Expo contact Peter Reeves

Rotary Youth Driver Awareness (RYDA) Bossley Park High School attended in strength with approx 240 students the RYDA program on Tuesday 15th May. Wetherill Park fielded a team of volunteers including members Pres Jim, Darren ( & Jess), Brian (& Robert & Rebecca), Alan Ireland & his friend Ian Frost, Denis Keller – visiting Rotarian – Gladesville Rotary Club. See picture attached. For anybody who has not had the chance to see this program in operation, this would be a wonderful opportunity to broaden your knowledge. It is an enjoyable day. Below is Pre Jim's observation. I enjoyed myself yesterday, but all the walking was a bit much for me Probably would have been better if there had of been a few seats around to enable a quick rest - really I don't mind walking to far, as long as I can stop & have a couple of minutes "sit down". Enough of the whinging
One down with many more to come. Next day is Monday 18th June for Fairfield High School. Brian again needs 6 volunteers so if you can check your diaries & book it in & advise Brian it would be appreciated. Early notification of assistance is needed for planning purposes and to assist with catering arrangements. Darren enjoyed Tuesday so much he has already volunteered for the 18th June. June ,International Director Just for a laugh International relations: A Kiwi guy, an Australian bloke, a little old Greek lady, and a young blonde Sitting together on a train, travelling through the Swiss Alps, were a Kiwi guy, an Australian bloke, a little old Greek lady, and a young blonde Swiss girl with large breasts. The Train goes into a dark tunnel and a few seconds later there is the sound of a loud slap. When the train emerges from the tunnel, the Kiwi has a bright red hand print on his cheek. No one speaks. The old lady thinks: The Kiwi guy must have groped the blonde in the dark, and she slapped his cheek. The blonde Swiss girl thinks: That Kiwi guy must have tried to grope me in the dark, but missed and fondled the old lady and she slapped his cheek. The Kiwi thinks: The Australian bloke must have groped the blonde in the dark. She tried to slap him but missed and got me instead. The Australian thinks: I can't wait for another tunnel, just so I can smack the Kiwi again................ First Aid Technique: A father walks into a bookstore with his young son. The boy is holding a quarter. Suddenly, the boy starts choking, going blue in the face. The father realizes the boy has swallowed the quarter and starts panicking, shouting for help. A well dressed, attractive and serious looking woman, in a blue business suit is sitting at a coffee bar reading a newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee. At the sound of the commotion, she looks up, puts her coffee cup down, neatly folds the newspaper and places it on the counter, gets up from her seat and makes her way, unhurried, across the book store. Reaching the boy, the woman carefully drops his pants; takes hold of the boy's testicles and starts to squeeze and twist, gently at first and then ever so firmly. After a few seconds the boy convulses violently and coughs up the quarter, which the woman deftly catches in her free hand. Releasing the boy's testicles, the woman hands the coin to the father and walks back to her seat in the coffee bar without saying a word. As soon as he is sure that his son has suffered no ill effects, the father rushes over to the woman and starts thanking her saying, "I've never seen anybody do anything like that before, it was fantastic. Are you a doctor?" "No," the woman replied. "Divorce attorney". |
